12-14-2010 – Heavy Rainfall and Severe Storm Potential
We continue to forecast a widespread rainfall event today through tonight, with potential for a few severe storms over northeast FL, perhaps into extreme southeast GA.
- Heavy rainfall may cause flooding issues across parts of inland SE Georgia & portions of northeast Florida. A swath of 2-4 inches is anticipated from southeast GA to inland northeast FL, with local maximum close to 5 inches by the time heavy rainfall pushes offshore Saturday morning.
- River flooding, especially across the Suwannee River & Alapaha basins, will worsen and become prolonged.
- Several other area rivers will rise into flood stage after the rainfall.
- Severe thunderstorms potential in the afternoon & evening, greatest threat area NE Florida from Jacksonville to Gainesville. Timing is generally from 1pm-8 pm.
